Back To School!

My boys were so excited for school to start. Honestly I think they were just sick of me! So on Monday morning they were off. They both have really great teachers and are really excited about the new year.

I tried to take some cute pics of them at school but I was embarrassing them. Hey I am a mom what can I say. There were others parents doing the same thing. We joked and said that we would do the same thing when they got to High School....Ha Ha Ha! I won't put it past me.

They really do see all!

During the school year my older boys walk to school. On their way out the door I always tell them to have fun and Choose the Right. So today when my little 2 yr old went out to play he said "bye mom, choose the right, kay mom, choose the right, kay". I think it has been about 2 months or so since I have done the little ritual of ours. It is amazing how much they remember. They really do see all. It's good to know that some things are sticking.

Green is Great!

Having a garden has changed the way Sydney eats. Until last years garden everything she ate had to be white. Picking the beans last year got her really excited about them and she found out that she loves them. So since then she has tried all sorts of new food and I couldn't be happier.

This is a picture of her picking this years harvest. We have already picked 5 lbs of beans from these plants and there are still lots of blossoms. They are pretty tasty beans, but the skins are a little tough. If anyone has a suggestion of a type of bean that we could try next year that would be great.

Yes- her hair looks like that most of the time. No wonder my mom used to call me "raga-muffin" all of the time!

Diapers!

As a mother of 5 I have changed a few diapers in my day. You would think by now I would understand that cheap diapers do not work! Well I did it again. Sam is almost totally potty trained so I bought him cheap wal-mart diapers to wear at night. Well today is the third time this week I am washing his sheets! There is a reason you get twice as many for your money. You have to change them twice as much!! So if any of you can benefit from this information that took me 10 years to learn it will make it worth it. CHEAP DIAPERS ARE NOT WORTH TRYING!!! So now I am stuck with these diapers, that of course I am too cheap to throw out. Hopefully this time I have learned my lesson and I won't make this mistake with Little D!

Feeling Crafty!

Very Cute Magnets that we made!!

This past weekend my friend Kim came to visit. Her hubby and mine took most of the kids camping so we were free to shop and craft. Since Kim is from the crafting capital of the world, Provo,UT she had some fun things to share. We made fun magnets and cards. We also made the cutest little paper boxes. It was so much fun to hang out with her. She is the most wonderful person I am very grateful to have her as my friend. Even if she wasn't crafty.

The Darrens!

Some of you may or may not know that my Darren is actually named after my brother Darren. So here they are together for the first time. Darren has always been a great big brother so I thought it would be nice to have another one in the family. Hopefully he will be as kind and hardworking as his namesake.

We have had so much fun having a garden this year. It is the second time we have done a garden in this house. We used all of the knowledge we gained last year to make this garden much better. We have tomatoes, beans, corn, peppers, and yellow zuccini. We tryed to have mellons, pumkins and more squash but the evil earwig really took it's toll on them. I have decided that earwigs are my least favorite bug. We planted the corn more for the look than the corn, but we already were able to harvest some little white corn. It was so good we could eat it raw. The kids love to play in the corn rows they are taller than Rod now. We also have 6 foot sunflowers that are beginning to bud. They are going to be so pretty. The tomato plants are covered in green tomatoes that are just teasing us. I cannot wait for those to ripen. There is nothing better than a home grown tomatoes. Those alone make it worth the water and time. I have decided that I love to garden. I really enjoy the planting and weeding. I love to go out in the morning and take inventory on what is going on. It is cool and the plants smell so good. It really is little piece of heaven in the city. We feel really blessed that we are able to have such a big garden and have great trees for the kids to climb in. There is a huge apple tree that Bob has claimed. It is a really great climbing tree. We have also been able to set up an archery target for the kids. But now that Rod has taught me how to shoot arrows I am totally addicted. It is very peaceful to go out there and stand the shade and just focus on the target and nothing else. I highly recommend it to all women. Well I've gone off subject a little. (What else is new.)
